3 Months 3 Weeks!!!

I just took a look at my ticker and I noticed that I have officially been waiting for 3 months and 3 weeks and 1 day!!! The wait is such a funny thing. When all the referrals were pouring in I could hardly stand to wait a minute longer... I guess I felt like the referrals were never going to end. But, since things have quieted down and I have some control over my emotions I am feeling good.
There are still a lot of little things that I would like to finish up before my lil' guy gets home. His room, learn more amharic, learn how to cook some basic Ethiopian recipes, etc...
Another positive about the wait is as the time has passed I have found that my kids are more prepared and knowledgeable about what is going to happen and what it will be like when we bring their brother home.
Speaking of room arrangements- those of you who have been in my shoes what did you do? Right now I am contemplating letting all 4 of my children share a room by re-modeling 2 rooms into 1 giant room with two sets of bunk beds. I have 3 kids rooms upstairs. One belonged to my boys, another was Belle's and the third is a guest room. But, we have had a hard time getting Belle to sleep in her own room so as of late she has been sleeping on a crib mattress on the floor in her brothers room. Ha... laugh if you will but this arrangement has been great. They read books to each other and then lights out and we get more personal time than we have in a loonng time- WooHoo!!!
My other thoughts are letting Belle and the new lil' guy share a room, keep the boys together and then I would still have my guest bedroom. ugh... I suppose there are a lot of options. I could also make the big room and just put the boys in it... but I feel bad for Belle. While they are all young I feel like I should keep them all together regardless of gender, and as they get older we can begin to separate them again. See I should be thankful that I have this time, I have a lot of thinking to do ;)
FYI I am assuming that for some time our lil' guy will most likely be in our room. But, I would like his bed set up so he has a place at home when he arrives even if it does not get used for awhile. So, what are your plans or do you have any suggestions for me?

I don't have any kids yet but I think it would be cool to have all of the kids in one room together. Your new little guy will probably be use to sharing a room with other children, so it might make the transition smoother. Have fun decorating!

We have separate rooms for our kids, but they always want to sleep in the same room. Until we had enough beds, one even slept on a pallet on the floor. Now we have enough bed space, and the oldest gets the top bunk~ they love it!

We don't have kids yet, but when I was little the four eldest all slept in the same room (until I reached teenage years) and it was THE BEST. Me, my brother, and my two sisters. I slept better that way and we have great memories. Things work better for different people, but it sounds like it might be great to have them all in the same room. Your new little guy will be used to sleeping with lots of kids so he;ll feel right at home!

We have some of these same decisions ahead of us. We currently have one boy and one girl in separate rooms and will be adopting another boy and another girl. We'll probably put the boys in one room and the girls in another although even that concerns me because my son often seems to need time to himself and his room is his own private place where he can go look at books, listen to music, and calm himself. He seems to need that retreat, and I worry that his younger brother could be 6 years younger than him and on such a different schedule...you are lucky that yours go to sleep so well! Whenever we let our two sleep in the same room, they're awake forever! (maybe just because they're NOT used to it)!

Amber,

Since we're thinking through similar issues, I mentioned your post to my husband last night and thought his idea was worth sharing. When he was a kid, he and his brother put their beds into one room (a tiny room that was basically big enough to hold bunk beds and a dresser and to walk through it on your way somewhere else), and then they used the other bedroom for desks, beanbag chairs, etc. The bedroom was really only for sleeping, and it gave them the option to get some privacy still or get some quiet to get some homework done while one was in one room and one in the other. He thought an idea for you might be to have them all bunk together in one existing bedroom without actually remodeling to make one giant room for this. If they're just sleeping, reading, keeping clothes in there, it wouldn't have to be that big. Then the other bedroom (the one that is Ella's now) could be another space for the kids. At some point you could put desks in it for homework. For now it might be beanbag chairs, books, music. Whatever works for you guys. But it keeps your options open later for moving people around as they get older and still gives everyone a little more room to get some privacy now when needed.

Megan... I really like that idea. And, because it is not as permanent it makes it much easier to commit to. Thank you for sharing- and thank your husband too!!!

Our 3 oldest shared a room for a while and loved it - it was so cute, wall to wall beds, and it made for easy bedtimes. But they grow up fast -- now the boys have the boy room and the girls the girl room and the 2 oldest would be horrified at the thought of sharing with each other. Just something to consider before knocking down any walls...unless they're easy to put back up or your husband enjoys those sorts of tasks more than mine does! (-:
